Migration and public finances in the EU

Abstract We provide novel and comprehensive evidence on the net fiscal contributions of natives migrants to governmental budgets EU countries. account for income taxes cash benefits, along with indirect in-kind which are often missing in standard datasets. find that average, were contributors public finances over period 2014–2018 and, moreover, they contribute approximately €1.5 thousand more per capita each year than natives. also show this difference is partly due selection characteristics make contributors, such as demographic factors employment probability.
